Unpacking the Network Marketing ‘Tools Scam’

Have you ever invested in MLM tools or training?  Did you feel it was fair or a ripoff?

Check out this quote from someone who’s been attacking this issue for a long time…

He says, “For the past 4 decades, literally millions of IBOs (independent business owners) have been ripped off… Uplines are scamming people because they’re not revealing how much the tools, websites, meeting rooms, events, etc. costs.”

Let’s unpack this one… As you might imagine, I’ve got a few things to say about this…

Food for thought…

  • Does Apple tell you how much the screen on an iPhone costs?
  • Does AT&T or Verizon reveal how much your internet service actually costs?
  • Does your favorite restaurant reveal their exact food costs of your favorite dish?

My first reaction when I read this guy’s quote was to say “Since when is that a requirement?”

And why would that alone be enough to say they’re scamming you?

Let’s just think about it logically for a moment…

If something exists, you can guarantee that it cost something to create.

Time. Effort. Energy. Money…

If it’s there, someone took the initiative and the risk to put it there.  And if they hadn’t put it there, you couldn’t use it.

Even after 30 years in the business, I continue to spend money every year on my own education, so that I can keep my skills sharp as business and marketing evolve.

Does that mean I’m getting ripped off?  Hardly. Investing in your own education is one of the smartest things you can do, in my opinion.

Remember, it’s not about the cost of the tool, it’s about “how much did it save you so that you didn’t have to originate the messaging?”

Hope this helps clear up this issue.

Training is the key.  Tools are optional.
