When Prospects Think They Don’t Know How

One thing that prevents some people from becoming a rep is they think they don’t know how. They don’t know how to sell. They don’t believe they could get customers to buy anything.
It comes down to good messaging, and there are 3 ingredients I’ll share with you today that make up how you communicate your product/business.
Knowledge Is Power
What I would say to that is, “Don’t invalidate yourself.”
Here’s why: Knowledge is power, in both past and future.
I use the word “packet” because it’s an internet phrase, but if you can, just picture a packet of knowledge.

You can have a packet of knowledge from training manuals or webinars, or watching other people. This is your education that you’ve acquired over your lifetime.
There are packets of experience. You’ve had experiences that you also get to combine together with your history in talking with people and others talking to you.
For instance, you hearing somebody at church talking, or you hearing somebody sing, and all the different conversations you’ve ever heard.
Then there are packets of imagination. You combine education and experience, and then you get to imagine. That’s the third one.
You can add yourself to your education and experience, or not.
If somebody has a script that works really well, and you don’t want to add yourself into that with imagination, don’t.
I didn’t for probably the first 200 prospects that I ever talked to. I just went right straight on the script, if it worked for somebody else.
I knew I couldn’t talk well. I am that person that didn’t know how, but this is how I overcame it.
All three of these add up to what? Your messaging.
Get Your Messaging Right
What’s messaging? Messaging is how you communicate a product or a business.
If you’re trying to get a rep, you’re communicating the business. If you’re trying to get a customer, you’re communicating the product. That is your messaging.
You put the message out there and you go through 20-30 customers or prospects. Did it work? If yes, keep it.
If no, go back, learn some more, get some more experience, imagine more and do your messaging.
A person who thinks they don’t know is not including future knowledge, experience and imagination. They’re only thinking about their past. That’s a mistake.
All the messaging occurs right here in this thing I call the Pipeline.

- You generate a lead
- You contact that lead
- You set an appointment for them to see a presentation
- Then you follow up with them
- And then they become a customer and you serve them and make money, or they do not become a customer and they go off the board.
- You follow up until they say yes or no. That’s the simple part.
Anybody who doesn’t want to do this is saying, “I don’t want to be a business owner,” because every business in the world must do this.
Messaging is used inside this Pipeline.
Quantity Across The Pipeline
People say, “It takes time!”
No, it takes quantity.
You can be in network marketing for 20 years and never figure out your messaging because you didn’t move the quantity.
My wife just about had a heart attack when I first explained this to her and I said, “Just get a hundred leads and bury them.”
She said, “What do you mean bury them?”
“Just move them across the Pipeline,” I said. “Don’t expect anything from it.”
She said, “A hundred people?”
It was profound.

But the sooner you move the quantity across the pipeline, the sooner you’re going to get your messaging down. You’re going to get HOW to say things correctly, in a way that that doesn’t offend people.
Every sales rep in the whole world has to get their messaging down on a product. If they move jobs, or they move to a different product, they’ve got to get their messaging down again.
I know I have it when it hits that good sound where the prospect says, “Yeah, I was just thinking about that,” or “I really need that!”
That is what messaging is, and that’s what you’re after.
